About Ganesha Chaturthi
Ganesha Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chavithi, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and prosperity. This 5-day festival begins on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Hindu lunisolar calendar month Bhadrapada (August-September).
In our village Alavatta, we celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm. The youth group organizes various cultural programs, puja ceremonies, and community feasts. The idol of Lord Ganesha is installed with great devotion, and we perform daily aarti and offerings.
The festival culminates on Ananta Chaturdashi when the idol is taken through the village in a grand procession accompanied by music and dance, and finally immersed in water, symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash while taking away with him the misfortunes of his devotees.
